The Comenius team visited Munich from 15th October to 20th October 2012 to take part in the meeting at the "Bayerische Landeschule for Körper Behinderte" (host school).

15th October

On our first day in Munich we met  all the partners in the project at the school, where we had a tipycal German breakfast, including the popular “Weißwurst". Next we did a tour of the school, whose premises were really impressive. Later we had a working meeting where all the teams introduced the materials they had produced on the topic "changing lifestyles".

16th October

The day started with a bus trip to the hidroelectric plant in Walchensee (the Alps), where we visited an exhibition that informed us about the building of the plant 100 years ago and its later modernisation. After that, we visited the different parts of the plant and learnt about its functioning.

In the afternoon we travelled to Hohenschwangau where we had a picnic and then visited the beautiful Neuschwanstein Castle.

                                                                                17th October

On Wednesday morning we took part in a guided tour of the city center: Marienplatz, Peterskirche, Viktualienmarkt... Later on we had a tipycal lunch in a Bavarian Restaurant. After lunch we walked through the beautiful English Gardens, visited the Olympic Park, climbed the Olympic Tower and finally visited the BMW world, a modern exhibition about the history of BMW cars and their newest prototypes.

On 18th October we returned to the Alps and we rode on the Wendelstain Rack Railway that goes up 1,217 metres and was built in 1912. Once we were up the mountains we enjoyed beautiful views of the German and Austrian Alps thanks to the splendid weather.
Later we travelled to Prien where we had lunch and went on a boat trip to the island of Chiemsee where we visited the palace of the same name.

Star Seekers

The students in the 2nd year of Bachillerato under the direction of Sergio Saez have shot a beautiful short called “Star seekers” that deals with the topic of environment. The story is about some students who decide to meet at IES El Tablero to participate in the last self-imposed world blackout against climate change. These ten minutes in the dark will change their world.

The English teacher Socorro Victor and Teresa López, a reporter of our blog,  joined the cast of this really original short that will certainly impress  you for its freshness and  sensitivity.

The video emphasizes the problem of light pollution, the excessive amount of artificial light which besides implying a huge waste of energy causes a dramatic reduction of the visitbility of stars.

Besides the above mentioned, the cast of the play includes: Elena Ábalos, Carlos Muñoz, Yolanda Moreno, Antonio Moreno, Cristian Tena, Marina Hidalgo, Alejandra Blancart, J.A. Casillas, Carmen Pérez, Mar, Luis Galán and Belén Jurado.

IES El Tablero for Fair Trade

Our school has become the first school in Andalucia to obtain the certificate of “Schools for fair trade”. This certificate has been achieved thanks to the work that the school has done to spread the idea of the importance of fair trade and the school's adoption of fair trade products.

The school has organized informative sessions with students and a small stall selling fair trade products has been installed once a month during break time.

There was a ceremony on 6th June were the school headmistress, Consuelo Serrano, received the certificate from the president of  IDEAS (an association working in favour of Fair Trade).

From the Comenius Project we want to express our support of these activities and will contribute to make the students even more aware of the importance of fair trade.

Meeting in Tortoli

The second meeting of the participants in our Project took place in Tortolí, Sardinia, from 19th to 25th May.

The students that took part in the project were Paula Barona, Lourdes Carranza, Marta Castro, Lourdes de la Torre, Carmen María Gómez y Blanca Hidalgo. The teachers who represented the school were Ana del Moral, Manuel Gómez Lama and Carmen Luque.

19th May

We flew to Tortoli on 19th May via Rome. We met the French team of students and teachers from Lycée Astier at Cagliari airport and we travelled to Tortolí by bus together. When we arrived in Tortolí the students were picked up by the host families.

20th May

On 20th May, we travelled to Sassari to watch a beautiful folklore festival called  the “Cavalcata Sarda” that unfortunately was called off because of heavy rain. We visited the centre of Sassari and the Sanna National Museum. Afterwards we travelled to Mara and celebrated a typical festival (similar to our “romerías”) with the local people. We were warmly received and were treated to a local  pasta dish and  lovely home-cooked lamb.

21st May

On Monday we spent the morning and early afternoon at the school, Istituto d’Istruzione Superiore ITI. At the shool we worked on our project and each team introduced the materials they had produced about “healthy diet”.

22nd May

After meeting at school we visited the archeological site S’Ortali ‘e Su Monte where we visited a nuraghe, a megalithic building characteristic of Sardinia. Later on we had lunch at the beautiful Orri beach.

23rd May

On Wednesday we went on a cycling tour of Tortoli starting at the school. The first stop was at the Porto Frailis beach, we went on to Arbatax Harbour where we saw the beautiful Rocce Rosse (red rock) and finally we visited the Peschiera in the Pond of Tortoli. It was a great day in nature!

24th May

On our last day in Tortoli we went on a boat trip along the coast where we enjoyed the beautiful coast of Ogliastra with magnificent views and we stopped off at some beautiful coves like the ones at Mariolu and Goloritzé. At these coves  we were able to swim in crystal clear waters. Students and teachers had a nice meal together on the boat.

In the evening we had a festival at the school where our Italian hosts had prepared some delicious food and some great musical performances. The French students performed an amusing show with music and humour, Polish students sang some songs, German students wore typical costumes and told us about their country and Spanish students danced some Sevillanas that they had learnt for the occasion.

Later that night we had to say goodbye to all our friends to leave for Cagliari where we caught the plane back to Spain on 25th.

STUDENTS ACTING FOR A BETTER WORLD

On June 21st a group of  French 1st year students under the direction of Belén García performed an original play which intended to entertain as well as to promote human values. The play was called “Baisse le son s’il te plaît, Vanessa travaille” and was about a group of students who gather to rehearse some songs. This leads to some conflict with the parents in whose house the rehearsal is taking place and this is the starting point for a series of amusing situations. The play was full of action and the audience had a great time.

The content of the play was very varied and included references to topics such as the environment, sexism, the understanding between parents and children and authoritarianism.

Although the play was performed in French both the teacher and the students wanted to contribute to the work with respect to the environment that our Comenius Project is carrying out. Thanks to all the participants!
